Walter Kendall was born around 1475 in Pelyn, the Kendall family estate near Lostwithiel, Lanlivery, Cornwall, England to parents John Kendall (of Treworgy) and Jane Holland.

Walter married Jane Rous, daughter of John Rous of Modbury, around 1510 in Pelyn, near Lanlivery, Cornwall.
They had four known children –
- Constance b ca 1500. Married Thomas Littleton and Richard Bryant.
- Nicholas b ca 1511 d 1583 Pelyn. Married Loveday Killiowe. 11 children.
- Lawrence b ca 1513 d 1556. Married Katherine Mundy. 4 children.
- Thomasine b ca 1517.
Katherine, wife of Lawrence Kendall was named with her husband in the will of her uncle Thomas Prior of Bodmin 1546 PCC. (Visitation of Cornwall pedigree 1620, page 259)
Walter died on 14 July 1547 in Pelyn, Cornwall and was buried at Lanlivery. A monument in the church written in latin reads “Corpus Gualteri Kendall, quo decimo tercio die Julii, anno infra scripto moribo periit sub hoc saxo premitur. 1547″.
