Charles Richey was born around 1710 in either Northern Ireland, or possibly in Scotland. He did send his son George back to Scotland for his university education in Glasgow.
Around 1730 he married a lady, name unknown, and had at least four children –
- George, a Presbyterian Minister, born ca 1732 died 1771 Fairview, Newry, Northern Ireland, aged only 38 years. He matriculated at Glasgow Uni in 1759, and married Elizabeth McCombe and had two children – Alexander 1750-1799 and Mary. George served at the Donaghmore Presbyterian Church in Corcreechy Road near Newry from 1763 until his death.
. - Grizzel (Grace) b ca 1738 and d 1810 Kings Creek, Newberry Co, South Carolina, USA. Grizzel married Nathan Brown, a wheelwright, around 1760 in Ireland, and they immigrated to the US around 1772. Nathan and Grizzel had six children. They appear in the book Scotch-Irish Migration to South Carolina, 1772 (Ancestry).
. - James b ca 1740 and d 1775 Newry. Married to Hannah. Merchant of Newry (per will index and Betham Genealogical Abstract). James and Hannah had four children Mary 1768 (married Andrew Cosgrave, ships commission broker of Newry), James 1770, Elizabeth 1774 and Alexander in 1776. James was listed in the Belfast Newsletter (newspaper) as being a merchant of Newry in 1774.

James’ widow Hannah married Robert Ker, a merchant of Newry, who was in partnership with Rev George’s son Alexander). James and Hannah, and their daughter Mary were mentioned in the will of Robert Ker.
. - Elizabeth b ca 1742 married Richard Kearney on 23 September 1763 at Donaghmore.
Charles was described as a merchant of Antrim on his son George’s University papers.
George was educated at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and matriculated in 1759. His entry in the Glasgow University Matriculations, in latin, states he was the eldest son of Charles Richey a merchant in County Antrim.

Note – I have many DNA connections to the family of James Alexander Richey bap 7 Jul 1639 Glasgow, Scotland who married Christian McCurrick 1648-1740 in 1668 in Glasgow. Their children were Samuel Alexander Richey 1668-1739, Hugh 1668-1740, Girsell b 1669, John 1670-1782, Charles b 1672, Ebenezer b 1675, Andrew b 1677, Barbara b 1679, Christian b 1682, Alexander b 1690-1749 and Janet.
The son Samuel Alexander immigrated to the USA and had a large family, including son Andrew Caldwell Richey.
